Why Do Amazon Sellers Lose Profit Visibility Even When They Have More Data Than Ever?

One thing I've noticed across many Amazon FBA and FBM businesses is that data isn't usually the problem. In fact, most sellers are surrounded by data. Sales reports. Advertising reports. Inventory reports. Performance dashboards. The real challenge is turning that data into actionable insights. Revenue is easy to track. Orders are easy to track. Ad spend is easy to track. But profitability? That's where visibility often starts to disappear. A campaign can drive impressive sales while quietly reducing margins. A best-selling SKU can generate significant revenue while contributing very little profit. Inventory can sit in storage longer than expected, increasing fees and tying up cash without immediately raising concerns. The information exists. The problem is that it's often scattered across multiple reports, platforms, and spreadsheets. As a result, critical questions become harder to answer: • Which SKU is generating the lowest profit? • Which advertising campaign is impacting margins the most? • Which products are tying up the most inventory capital? • Where are fees and operational costs quietly eroding profitability? If finding those answers requires pulling data from several different reports, the challenge may not be a lack of data. It may be a lack of visibility. I've found that many Amazon businesses make better decisions when they can view revenue, advertising spend, Amazon fees, returns, and inventory performance together in one place. Because the goal isn't more reports. It's clearer insight into what actually drives profit. For Amazon sellers and eCommerce operators: What's your biggest challenge when tracking profitability? • Advertising costs? • Inventory management? • SKU-level profitability? • Amazon fees? • Reporting delays? • Something else? I recently came across an article that explores why profit visibility becomes difficult as Amazon businesses grow and how centralized dashboards can help sellers make faster, more informed decisions: https://www.reportzapp.com/revenue-growth-can-hide-profit-loss-why-amazon-sellers-need-better-profit-visibility/ I'd love to hear how other sellers are tracking profitability, managing costs, and making data-driven decisions across their Amazon operations.
